Finally finished enough observation and analysis to announce this new Binary Asteroid. The rapidly evolving eclipse events were shallow at 0.033-0.042mag indicating a size ratio DsDp = 0.19. 0.14 is our practical limit though for a bright asteroid (brighter than mag 13) we could technically get to 0.1.

Cheers

Hi David,

Good to hear. Great effort. How many obs to get to this point?

Julian Oey started observing the target on the 31st of December. I picked up the first event on the 8th January and the teams last observation was on the 30th Jan with several other observatories (ProAm) jumping in to help.

The target wasn't even a Program target. Both Julian and I chose it as it was in need of further observation due to a published lightcurve uncertainty of < 3.

Hi David,
Another notch for amateur astronomy. Great work and justified recognition for no doubt many, many hours of dedicated work.

Well done David, how you not only got the data and made the announcement but you had enough clear sky to get it all in!

Cheers!

You make do with what you get :) These targets are short period (2-3h) and the eclipse events are typically just as wide so one can squeeze in enough time even on poor nights.
