Is it just me or has anyone else ever surcumbed to impulse buying...the items (Canon EOS-350D Mod Full Spectrum Camera + Astronomik 6nm Ha Clip in Filter) have been sitting unused on the bench for months...jeez I am annoyed with myself as I thought I had curb this behaviour.

I always buy on impulse. If I wait too long I decide I don't really need it. Boy you should see some of the stuff I have accumulated over the last 30 years. If I could get half the money back I would be a still be a millionare.

I'm not a visual observer and have just ordered the 3 books that form the Night Sky Observer's Guide, as well as some programming books even though I'm trying to get out of IT. waa waa.

I enjoy the wait, planning, investigation, and final anticipation too much to make large impulse purposes.

My A-P refractor was 4 years in planning and a 1 year wait.

A wise friend once defined the condition, it's called spendthrift fever, the only relief is to spend your way out of it. :P

I too am afflicted, bought a second camera body while the dollar was high, it's been in tha camera bag for almost a week and not fired a shot!

Yep, I'm a shocker at impulse buying, I buy it, and think about it the next day, it seems I'm not alone.

If you're not impulse buying, you're doing it astro-wrong.

It's a dangerous hobby, but I've seen worse. The radio control guys (planes, helicopters) go REALLY nuts - very addictive stuff (especially now that China is dominating the market with amazing stock @ crazy prices... goodbye local hobby shops :( http://hobbycity.com

Hahaha, my wife came to visit me in the shed last night and started counting..... "Nine telescopes! Have you been buying more?!!", "Is that a new one?".

Me - "No Dear, I've had that for ages....."

I don't think she believes me. Lucky she doesn't check the eyepiece cupboard!

Cheers,
Jason.

Flat, House, Car, Dogs (the best!), Car again, Farm, squillions of dollars worth of kitchen gear and gadgets, Philipino Bride (returned-defective), ATV, etc. etc.
In fact, the only things I haven't bought on impulse are my telescopes and camera gear. I spend so much time researching them that they tend to go out of production by the time I've decided to by them!

This thread made me look at what I have bought on impulse over the last four years. By impulse I mean items I thought I needed at the time and bought without any research as to "deals" etc (and the money was burning a hole in my pocket). I love to shop!

New car $17000
1953 Meccano #10 $3500
1973 Meccano #10 $3500
Meccano Block Setter $3000
Acer Laptop $500
noteboook computer $400
16" Lightbridge $3000
G11 mount $5000
Television and stand $4000
Spectrum Analyser $3000
Total $42900

This does not include household items etc bought by design or items under $1000 that I have forgotten and I am only an "OAP"

Ummmmm I like to play with RC planes and choppers as well as astro gizmo's. At least I have moved on from the really expensive one (WRX race car, absolute money pit). I would hate to think of how much I have spent on my hobbies and the vast majority of purchases have been made on impulse .
