Just asking if anyone knows the actual weight of the optical tube/truss assembly (with optics in place)?

Cheers,
Rob.

I can just lift it to put it in the carrier. So it must weigh less than 25 KG. I just bought a hand trolley from that Supercheap for $30. The best price at Bunnings for a similar item was $79

Assembled OTA is 74 lb or about 34 kg.

Thanks Guys!....................that's one heavy tube:eyepop:...................I lifted and carried a 25kg marble planter box about 25 feet the other day and managed...............but it was a real strain on my ageing knees:rolleyes:

Yeh I used to have the same problem (http://www.pbase.com/strongmanmike2002/image/68941355/original).....only the knee issues are only now juuuust starting to show nearly 10 yrs later

Could probably still carry a 12" LB though

Gee Mike things must be getting bad I can remember when you could lift a massive weight. I still have a picture of you.

Now Rob, don't tell us you are thinking of putting this on an EQ6, if so I will have to scream!

Hi John........................no, not at all.

Just looking at other options in the future when dealing with large aperture telescopes.

At the moment, I can manage setting up the EQ6 and an 8 inch newtonian o.k.

Larger aperture will eventually be wanted of course, so I wanted to know how heavy the LB tube assembly was as I have to store it pretty far from my viewing position.

Would probably need some form of cart I imagine as that weight is too heavy to lift and carry over a large distance to the rocker box.

Hi Robert

As I mentioned I have one and I do have trouble lifting it assembled, and I keep it asembled, but I can lift it into the rockerbox without too much trouble (I am old and weak these days) Take a deep breath and grit your teeth grab the altitude pivots then lift! Make sure you have it the right way round or you will need a rest before you try again!

The OTA Assembly moves very easily on the $30 trolley/handcart I got from Supercheap. Even up and down stairs but it is safest to strap it to the trolley if moving it up and down stairs.

The rocker box assembly is carried on a second trip and is carried on its side. However for short distance I just hold the box part and roll it on its rotating base (like a wheel)
