Beats me what that smooth bit in the middle is !! Looks like a completely different texture when compared with the end bits. Looks like two halves joined together !
We need some comet experts to talk about this !!

I think the smooth part is caused by vibrations, and the comet will soon break into 2 pieces.

The nucleus looks like 19P Borrelly, nice images!!!!!!
Have to wait and see what the drum is when things settle down a bit, beautiful .......stunning!

This is the comparison i was talking about, 103P/ Hartley 2 and 19P/ Borrelly.
