11-10-2010, 07:43 AM
New Moon is the 6th of November ( a saturday night and all).
If i am not working will be there, although i am not a gate key keeper. Any others interested ???
A big welcome to some of the Sydney and Newcastle guys if you are interested in coming up, (Mike has out the directions to the Pony Club on the Forum or you can PM one of us for directions.
11-10-2010, 01:19 PM
Im keen to go will keep you posted if something comes up.
11-10-2010, 07:28 PM
I will make a note in the book
11-10-2010, 08:29 PM
Noted. Been a while since I was up there.
11-10-2010, 11:38 PM
I am a definite tentative. :D
(After spending Joanne's birthday at IISAC while she was working... I am not too sure of anything for a while. I am already working off the penance.
So far, mowed lawn, dried dishes, hung out washing, brought in washing, made dinner, folded washing, helped formatting assignment, printed and collated assignment, and made 11 cups of tea. And thats just the first 24 hours!)
At this rate I hope to be fully paid up by November.
What do you reckon?
Good thing I stopped at the Oaks for a break on the way home from IISAC. (yes, I led Geoffro on another shortcut!!! - will he ever learn :) )
They had Sunday markets, which reminded me I did not have a present yet, and I was able to buy here a couple of nice plants. (She is doing horticulture at tech and Orchids are her passion)
OOPs Gotta Go. Time to make another cuppa!
11-10-2010, 11:54 PM
Weather dependent, I should be there.
Should have the new scope also, so this might affect the viewing, due to cloud. Getting it this week, so hopefully the associated cloud comes during the current waxing moon ...
12-10-2010, 09:28 PM
New scope arrived yesterday and assembled today.
Looking forward to giving her a full workout.
Weather permitting I am a definite maybe.:P
The next week though I'm expecting rain, as you do after a scope purchase, so you can blame me if the weather is cactus???????
12-10-2010, 10:37 PM
WHAT NEW SCOPE ?
12-10-2010, 11:47 PM
So... what happens at this 'Pony Club'? Do you just look at the Horse Head?
13-10-2010, 12:51 AM
not only that Peter - we get to see it naked eye
occasionally (well most of the time actually) - we get to look at the fridge and the pie oven as well
and when we have run out of beer - we have even been known to look at the moon
why don't you come up and have a look for yourself ?
but then again - just how far south of sydney are you ?
your showing 153 km from here ? (Terrigal that is)
13-10-2010, 02:09 AM
I'm in the northern suburbs of Sydney and my 12" dob is pining for some dark horses! Where are the ponies located exactly?
Actually I can't make it on Nov 6 anyway, but perhaps the following lunation.
13-10-2010, 07:46 AM
There is a thread with travel details at the top of this forum in the "sticky" area.
Basically, it is Wisemans Ferry Road Mangrove Mountain.
Between 10 and 30 of us generally meet on a Saturday nearest the new moon each month.
Skies are fairly dark, but it can get a bit dewy at times.
Everyone is welcome.
Watch for a thread each month with the details.
Look forward to seeing you there in the near future.
13-10-2010, 09:17 PM
(14" Orion Skyquest XX14i Truss Dob.)
Sounds good Rick.
That leaves me hanging on by just half an inch....:)
15-10-2010, 06:56 PM
Sorry folks ....cant make it.
Its my 23rd Anniversary that weekend and I am slo rostered on in the Surf Lifesaving Radio room on Sunday.

16-10-2010, 07:35 AM
Bring Karen and we will bring the sparklie.:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
16-10-2010, 09:23 AM
neither of those excuses is among the list of reasons for not attending the PC Geoffro
16-10-2010, 06:48 PM
I am sure that being scared of losing one's masculinity is among the reasons....
19-10-2010, 03:57 PM
You'll just have to get in touch with your FEMININE side and come to the PC!!!!!
19-10-2010, 06:22 PM
ok servo-cat is up and working and I have new neglars to play with so im hoping to be set free. Still need a freezer suit
19-10-2010, 11:54 PM
then you better tell me what size you are
20-10-2010, 01:28 PM
freezer suit schmeezer suit
20-10-2010, 01:48 PM
you want one TOO! ?
i don't know whether i am allowed to sell 2 in the one month Michael
you will just have to keep bringing the better half to keep you warm for a while :P :D
20-10-2010, 06:16 PM
I can recommend the freezer suits.:)
They are comfy as well as warm....
Mine also doubles as a sleeping bag occasionally after a big night observing.
02-11-2010, 10:56 AM
There is talk that the Freezer Suit will soon be compulsory uniform at the Pony Club. There certainly seems to be more with them then without!
I am very greatful to Mr Owl for supplying mine. Not only warming, but safe, with visibility strips that stop other observers bumping into you in the dark. They are extremely good value for money, and well worth the investment.
[This has been an unsolicited statement. Written and spoken by the warm guy in the nifty night attire]
BTW: back on topic,
Pony Club, this coming Saturday, New Moon!
Who is going.
What do the weather gods say?
02-11-2010, 11:29 AM
the weather gods are non-commital at this point in time
but the owl is looking forward to roosting at the PC for the nite
02-11-2010, 04:09 PM
Weather permitting will be there saturday night, otherwise I'll be at work and will try for Bretti for a few days at the beginning of next week
02-11-2010, 04:42 PM
A great idea!
03-11-2010, 04:56 PM
Saturday morning's looking a bit dodgy, might clear up later
04-11-2010, 12:02 AM
Bretti for a few days next week ! --> Sounds very attractive.
04-11-2010, 01:09 PM

What you think o wise one.:cloudy::sunny::cloudy:ht tp://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/../vbiis/images/smilies/sunny.gif
04-11-2010, 01:11 PM
if a good sort asks you out - ACCEPT
04-11-2010, 01:14 PM
That ain't gunna happen.
So I guess we'll just have to go.
04-11-2010, 01:26 PM
04-11-2010, 01:30 PM
well - if you have nothing better to do
guess you could drive up just to see if the place is still there and the fridge and the pie warmer still work
04-11-2010, 01:39 PM
Does this mean the owl's gunna pike????
04-11-2010, 01:45 PM
Hey guys, I'm still alive. Finally got my scope back from the USA last week . Haven't had a chance for it to see light yet as its always been cloudy.
Re the Pony club i'm non-committal at this stage as last I heard I thjink there might be already something else planned for that night that I'll have to check out.
04-11-2010, 01:53 PM
Can't believe it's taken so long to get it back?
I guess it feels like you've got a new scope and hence we can blame you for all this inclement weather.:P
Be good to catch up if you go to PC.
04-11-2010, 01:59 PM
one never knows Rick - one never knows
04-11-2010, 02:00 PM
Yeah Rick, Mr Murphy has struck again. Blame me if you like for the weather ... maybe a few more accessories I bought over the week end contributed to the clouds of late
Re the scope - yeah it took longer than expected, but thanks to the great efforts of Sheldon & Hammond (Celestron distributors in Australia) it didn't cost me anything to ship it there and back nor for the clean, etc.
04-11-2010, 06:54 PM
Unable to make it as a good sort did ask me out ;)
My 23rd Anniversary and we are going out for dinner and a movie.
Kaz chooses the Restaurant and I choose the movie.:D
Hope you all have a great night.
04-11-2010, 07:40 PM
Happy 23rd Geoffro and Karen.:party::party::party::drink:: drink::cheers::cheers:
See ya soon.
05-11-2010, 07:01 AM
Happy Anniversary buddy ! :love2: :violin:
Best wishes to you both
06-11-2010, 05:46 AM
Hey Geoffro you could probably spend less by seeking out a Macdonalds with a TV screen and a disney movie: what a thought, could have dinner and movie over by say 530 then come to the PC, weather permitting
06-11-2010, 07:05 AM
Optimist !!! :astron:
What we need is for someone to go out and buy a $2995 water tank.
I have accepted the inevitable, and a BBQ invitation from the visiting Pomme outlaws, for tonight !
So, I am willing to become the sacrificial lamb for the greater good of the group.
06-11-2010, 07:42 AM
Unlike you to bail so early Al.
The optimists are predicting that there might be a window of opportunity tonight after about 7pm.:P
You have a good bbq though and we might see you a bit later???:poke:
We haven't yet got the owl's update though.
06-11-2010, 08:04 AM
I'm out for tonight. Expecting a 'visitor' that could arrive at anytime.
Hope the weather plays nice, been trying to setup in the backyard all week
06-11-2010, 08:13 AM
Don't forget to keep us posted on that 'visitor' Deeno.
You'll be doing a different type of 'viewing' for a while.;)
06-11-2010, 08:45 AM
i blame rick.. if he hadnt bought that new scope we would have been golden.
06-11-2010, 09:04 AM
Then it's up to me I guess to clear this up!
Abra kadabra. Just waved the magic wand.:prey:
06-11-2010, 09:21 AM
What did you get Rick? Does this mean you're leaving Dob Alley?
06-11-2010, 10:54 AM
the owl is going to show his patience and wait for next week
06-11-2010, 12:44 PM
Just need more space!!
Did you read my signature of late?:P
06-11-2010, 12:50 PM
Probably a wise move
My driveway is submerged...I float out later!
06-11-2010, 12:51 PM
And join the LUNA-tics!!!:P
Is this a definite no or is there still some hope?
Next week starts at midnight tonight!!!
06-11-2010, 12:52 PM
He is a genuine two dobed humdinger?
06-11-2010, 01:18 PM
the owl is definite - staying home this week
06-11-2010, 01:42 PM
Sky is slowly starting to break up here.
I'm willing to go up if anyone else interested.
Roll call. Bump. I'm itchin to get the new scope out under some black stuff.
06-11-2010, 02:08 PM

06-11-2010, 03:45 PM

06-11-2010, 04:39 PM
Where's your note???:P

06-11-2010, 05:16 PM
it's teasing you Rick

come and get mine if you want
06-11-2010, 05:23 PM
Almost started to look promising earlier this arvo. Seems to be getting worse now :cloudy:. I'll give it a miss tonight.
06-11-2010, 05:34 PM
Have key will travel.
07-11-2010, 01:03 AM
Well I can see a few teaser stars out there now.
I wonder, Did anyone go up there.
07-11-2010, 07:52 AM
Michael, Carly and I went up for a look.
Waited around for about an hour and half. Saw Jupiter and a few stars as a hole opened up but we didn't set up as the clouds looked a bit ominous in the distance. Just as well we didn't as the heavens opened up, but not with stars.:(
We noted that before we go up next time that the field will need to be slashed as the rain of late has promoted much growth. Very uncomfortable under foot.
The frogs were friendly though.
Nobody missed anything.
07-11-2010, 07:54 AM
what about tonight?
07-11-2010, 08:54 PM
considering bretti for a few days this week, anybody interested? give me a tingle on 0411438858 (haven't seen the forecast though)
07-11-2010, 09:32 PM
I was hoping to get to Bretti for a few days myself this week, but I did not put in for leave, and the weather forecast is crappy with occasional pathetic.
If you go anyway, let me know and I may be able to swing a couple of days.
But I have to be back for Dentist on Thursday.
The sky tonight is awful here, looks clear but hazy.
