I agree with the comments on the Canon 15x50 binoculars. I have been using the canon 15x50 IS binoculars myself for stargazing for over 2 years now and absolutely love them! Brilliant image quality yet I found them a little too heavy to stargaze without a tripod for too long. Last week I purchased the Canon 10x42 model (40% off on Procular.com.au) and use them for spotting while on the road. These are absolutely amazing!!! The image stabilisation, light weight, brightness and everything about them is A++. I own a Leica and had a pair of Zeiss binoculars before as well. I hate to admit it but Canon's IS models are just as good for about half the price! I am very tempted to purchase the Canon 10x30 on Procular as well - it seems like a perfect pair for traveling and general use.

I've been a convert to image stabilized binoculars for a while now (as well as an avid proselytizer). The optical quality of the Canon 10x42 is top notch. (I have a pair of Canon 12x36 IS too, but the 10x42's are clearly superior optically, revealing more detail despite lesser magnification.)

Admittedly I mainly use them for birding, but I gifted my trusty old Bushnell 10x50s after only one night under the stars with both pairs. And pretty soon I'll be putting my Celestron 15x70's up for sale too. My telescopes are for extended viewing of single objects, but my binoculars are mainly for sky cruising. And with IS, even hand held, I just see more.

We all like IS camera lenses, but for some reason, people seem to have a real prejudice about using IS for binocular viewing. However, even after only 10 seconds on the moon it was hard for me to think about going back.
