Hello
My current setup has not been takeing very pretty pictures, so just for fun i thought i would see how far i could see with a 56mm apature. The central star (that looks like a xmas decoration) is I Cen and just above it the faint smudge is ngc5102 an eliptical galagy listed as 11billion light years. 3x8min @f8 and 5x1min @F5.6 both iso 800.
I wonder what Galileo would have thought if he had a digital camera?

Cheers

He'd be completely mystified by one. For him, a digital camera would seem like magic (remember Clarke's Law). But, if you explained to him how to use it, he'd get the hang of it after awhile, even if he didn't really know how it worked.

Was that shot taken through camera lenses or a scope?? A few extra subs just on the galaxy would go down real well :)

Thats a camera lens Carl, hence the defraction spikes. I think i will retire it to the trash can, as i am realy tired of trying so hard for little return, not to worry though, i just got an ed80 :D.

I believe the distance should read Million rather than Billion.
The furthest one can see using a 15 cm scope is a Quasar in Virgo 3C 273
mag 12 - 13 at 1.9 Billion L/Y away.
