Yay! Just got a fsq 106n 2nd hand :D - now to wait for the g11 to arrive.

I really wanted the newer one with the f/3.6 reducer but doing the sums versus this 2nd hand one it would have cost about 3k extra.

First light might not be for a few weeks :( The g11's might be a bit away.

Just have to get the camera adapter for it, and a diagonal for the odd visual. I'll prob get rings as well once I decide if I'm going to piggyback something on it.

Welcome Gavin

A nice & familiar combo you'll have there soon - a Tak sitting on a G-11. Now you need an FS60-C for guiding....

A wise purchase there Gavin - enjoy!

Not everyone follows the G-11 trend though...

Congratulations, mate!

Now, all you need is an STL. :D

Congrats, Gavin. I have a FSQ-106ED and an EM-200... but I'm still waiting for a tripod

Congratulations on your fabulous scope purchase. Wise choice.

The Tak clamshell is very good and you can piggyback a guide scope on them. You simply whack a screw through the top hole and make sure it screws into the guidescope mounting hole (assuming it has one).

I use an Astrotech 66ED scope which has a mounting hole. It came with a microfocuser, is light, I always find a guide star, and it simply screws onto the clamshell with one screw through the top tightened into the mounting hole under the focuser.

The Astrotech scope cost me about US$200 2nd hand through Astromart and was one of the best astro purchases I've made.

You could use just about any guiding camera as it has plenty of light and gudie stars.

I guide the TEC180 with it as well.

Greg.

Thanks Greg. With the guider, I'm debating whether to get something nice & cheap like you did or get a Tak 60mm to do the odd wider than the 106 shot.

This is precisely why I have my FS60-C guiding for the other Gavin - I can swap their duties at any time depending on the FOV I want.

+1 FS-60CB.

Beautiful little scope which can easily serve double duty. Can also get the CAA for it, too.

Hey Tak guys :)

If I get the FS60 with the tube holder for it, would it just screw straight onto the tube holder/clamshell on the 106N or do you need something else between them?

The FS60 isn't corrected, you'll need a flattener or reducer to correct the image. The reducer definately isn't cheap.
