Hi, All does anyone have any simple idea's on how to make a home made
spider for my 16" Dob project.
Thanks
Paul
Hi Paul,
A very strong, cheap and easy one is shown here:

I built two like this for 12 inch newtonians and they worked very well. Wire spiders work well too and are cheap but little more involved.

Hi Paul, :welcome: to IIS, mate!
At what stage of your scope are you at? If at the planning stage, the design selection process is less complicated, not easier though.
There are many web sites that have links to designing all aspects of a scope. The spider and secondary for me is a little illusive for me too unless you have a pretty well decked out metal work shop.
Having said that, the following site is good:

You can also do a search for big dob and newtonian sites and see what solutions they've come up with.

Thanks Alexander & Rod,
Am building a 16" f/4.5 Dob from the book by Kriege & Berry I have the mirror cell all done, and now starting the secondary cage, I like the idea at
http://www.swayzeoptical.com/spider/spider.html
so will make one this way, thanks for your advice.
Paul
Hi Paul,
That's fine. It is a very strong design and I've seen a lot of people use it. If you want to try making the secondary easier to collimate, this idea is worth considering and should combine OK with the spider you have chosen. I used it recently on a travelscope:

Look forward to hearing about your progress.
Rod.
