Good Accessory Case?

Does anyone have any recommendations for an accessory case capable of holding a large finder, telrads, large 2" accessories, dewheaters etc with a pluck foam interior? I know Bintel have a large case for $79 but it is really solid and large enough for holding heavier goods? A Pelican would be nice but a real shot in the wallet so I'm looking for other alternatives.

You get what you pay for.
Have a look at a Jaycar store, they often have good cases.

Bunnings had some Pelican case knock-offs for sale around father's day last year. About briefcase size. $29 - I challenge someone to find SIGNIFICANT differences between them and the original. Come with two sheets of pluck foam - I've got two spare sheets stored away for significant equipment changes!

I haven't seen them at Bunnings since, but you could always ask them.

Another vote for the knockooffs, they are IMO every bit as good as the originals.

Thanks I might try Bunnings and Jaycar. Jaycar's website has a pelican style case, but too small hopefully they have larger.

Not Pelican style, but these guys have a range of cases including some with what they call "pick'n'pluck" foam:

I have a couple of their rack cases which I thought were reasonably priced and well made.

The stores I have spoken to only have relatively small pieces of it; not big enough for my cases.

Jethro, how big do you need it? Just the other day I saw sheets at CR that were about 50cm x 30cm or so.

I cant recall exactly at the moment, but its something like ~450mm x
~330mm...not sure.
When I was in Melbourne last, I went to a couple CR's who didnt stock it, another I rang had it but it was only about 300x300.

I've considered just getting some solid foam but the results from my adventures in cutting it dont meet with my expectations. It would be a more robust solution if I could work it.

I have a Bintel case for my eyepieces only and another slightly smaller case for finder/diagonal/focusser/odds and ends. The Bintel case is robust enough for the eyepieces alone.

I also have these yellow pelican knock offs. Works an absolute dream although they were a clearance item.

Picked up a 400mm wide one for 49 bucks. And yes, they are shock/water proof.

Brand is Craftright if you want to do a bit of google searching for AU suppliers.

I believe Kincrome also made the yellow knockoff cases, it may be worth checking with electronics suppliers and automotive spares suppliers.

Bunnings at Mile End and Parafield Gardens in Adelaide had a stack of the large and medium yellow Kincrome cases for $85 and $55, respectively. I just bought a large one for my eyepieces and such.

It seems to be a pretty rugged case given the relatively low cost. I guess it remains to be seen if it will stand the test of time but I suspect it will. :thumbsup:
