Suggestions for a telescope case

I am not too fussed with transporting my telescope in a an old sleeping bag,..Can anyone suggest some options for storing and transporting my OTAs-the telescope with foam end piece supports is 105 cm long and the foam end pieces are approximately 45 cmx45 cm? I'd like to keep the foam pieces if possible

I rang Howards Storage and they say the largest plastic storage box they or anyone else sells is 85 cm long.

I could make a plywood or MDF case myself I suppose but it will become so heavy it won't be a one person job to move.

How do you store and transport your scope?

(i have been advised not to leave the OTA on the mount but dismantle after each session to avoid unnecessary forces on the gears)

How about hopping down to the local plumbing shop and getting some suitable sized drainage or sewer pipe (PVC) and a couple of end caps. Cut the pipe lengthways on each side, put a couple of hinges on one side and a couple of catches on the other, then trim your foam to fit. You could even screw a handle on it to carry it.

Would that do?

There is a company in Sydney that makes custom traveling cases for musical instruments...I don't know their name but I heard froma muscian that they do good work...

doubt I could do anything as nice..but its more the weight i was worried about.
My OTA is big enough as it is and after foam lining it may become impossible to handle by oneself

It is not a cheap option (Aprox $200)
But I bought an Orion padded carry case for my 10" GSO dob through Bintel
I'm sure you could do something similar for your scope ?

Seeker you should be able to get 150 or 200 mm thickwalled sewer pipe from you local plumbing shop. I'd imagine that that should be wide enough to take a 125mm newt.

And they sell end caps for that size sewer pipe. I've used the Sewer pipe method, Quite heavy actually. The sewer pipe walls are 12mm thick!

Its actually for my (brand new) 8 inch Celestron Newt that I need the case...still will check the plumbing shop. Bunnings doesn't have big enough though

A friend of mine who is a musician says that they do good work...
