Mike Lockwood, who is currently helping to push the uber-fast dob barrow has posted some information on his website about the new paracorr, which as well as being optimised for faster optics (~F2.5 - F3) looks like it will be available as a semi-permanent in-focuser version (no need for tunable top - just put any EP in and focus normally) and the usual drop in version.

Interesting move, wish they could do that for the type 1 paracorr.

In addition on his page is a cool little report and photos from the 2010 WSP

Been there with a 12" f/3.7 and I think it was a mistake. Aside from the coma (I didn't have a coma corrector 20 years ago) the secondary was humongous to the point of degrading the image badly, and the eyepieces to match were hopelessly short. I concluded that as a Newtonian f/5 to f/7 was more optimal, with a comfortable secondary obstruction, a flatter field, add some decent eyepieces and NO need for a parracor...

Mirrors under f/3 really only belong in cassegrain or folded newtonian* systems IMHO.

Conversely his scope would be an ideal candidate to convert to a folded newtonian...

Thanks for the link Jethro.

I am not a big dob guy (yet!) but I can see the appeal for large aperture, no ladder required telescopes.
