Hi All,:) I see that Guang Sheng will be releasing a 16" truss scope next march.
Meade have just released a 8", 10", 12" truss all made by GSO. The GSO will be going for $2500AUS.:eyepop: Can't wait, it might not be an Obsession, but for this price who cares. Cheers, John

No image in AS&T just the words 16" f4.8 Andrews GS dob coming March 2006 A$2,499

Wonder if it looks like a larger version of the meade lightbridge

Argh, no pic? That's no good. I want to get an idea of how portable it's going to be. If it's just like the Meades, that would not be much good for the hatchback with that bulky base.

I got word from the horses mouth that it will be very much like the Meade, with the exception of the fitting of the truss poles. The meade gets a quick connect assembly, whilst the GS version doesnt, making assembly/disassembly a bit more time consuming.

I agree that the size of the base assembly will make it something of a monster. A much better idea would be a low slung rocker and mirror box of the tradional truss dob design :(

At only 2 and a half grand so what if it takes a few more minutes to assemble than the Meade. The sky isn't going anywhere.

Sounds like my big dream scope is gonna have to be a long term DIY project. If I knew where to get the optics (on a budget) I would be ready to start on the hardware. Maybe the big GS mirrors can be bought separately...

Andrews and Bintel sell the GS mirrors seperate. maybe there hope that the 16" mirror will be available seperate too. (maybe much later though)

I would be interested to know how they did the dust cover and if a light shroud is available.

Hi All, :) Maybe GSO will make changes on the run, and put quick release truss tubes on it. So far as fitting it in to a small car I think it should just fit, the rocker box being the bulkiest part of the scope. I have a laser and the box should just fit into the back.
At the moment I have an 4" Unitron alt-az, between ota and the tripod it takes up half the car and thats without all the other stuff you need.
The 16" won't take up much more space, the main difference is one is 4", the other 16":eyepop: Cheers, John.
