Hi all, i refurbished a old 6" telescope which was gathering dust at a school in Bangalore. Telescope mount is made of 19mm plywood. Base is attached with 3 wheels for smoother movement. Old paper mash tube was replaced with a 7" PVC tube. Here in this design mirror cell is modified with a 1400 grams counter weight to balance the scope. Helical focusser was machined to replace a cheap plastic one, finder scope was also developed from a aluminium ring, lot of work....took one month to complete the scope. There is no conventional cradle here, this is replaced with a 1 inch thick circular wooden blank attached to the tube. Optical performance is quite good. Lot of running around to get things done but i really enjoyed this project. After my DIY refractor building this is my second telescope making project in 14 months. Excellent - how does the Helical work, I have never seen that before.

Nicely made, PVC would be interesting how well that goes with temperature variations. Love the Focuser design, onlu once moving parts heaps reliable.

Thanks Petra, helical focusser works fine with zero image shift. As we do not get metal focusser here i replaced a fragile plastic rack & pinion with a machined aluminium one, works great!!!!

Anil
