last night l was getting elongated stars as a result of jerking in the Dec motor. when l removed the motor you could see a very uneven rotation and l suppose what you would call a grating noise, l removed the motor from the gearbox and the noise stopped so l assumed it was the gearbox itself.
thinking that the motor and box were not meshing properly l put it back together and now all seems normal again, has anyone had this drama and if so is it common to have the motor and box move out of sync or any other ideas? thanks.

Mick, if you have accidentally knocked the motor the symptoms you describe would be typical. The gearboxes are made from a light Delrin housing and it is not difficult to de-mesh the motor pinion.

Mick, which motor type do you have The original or the Maxxon high-torque motors?

cheers, Bird

they are the early steppers Anthony. l may have found the problem in power supply. when you disconnect the R.A motor the Dec motor returns to normal and runs as it should.
l have a 13.8v regulated power supply which should be more than enough but l am also running a Kendrick dew heater with 2 bands and Robofocus off the same supply along with the mount being loaded a bit more than normal although not near it's limit.
l will try it tonight with just the mount connected and see howit goes, any thoughts?
