Does the forum image upload engine modify/compress images on upload, even if they're under the kB limit etc? I'm sure the quality/sharpness of images uploaded is less than my originals and can't figure out why. Eg this is a link to 800px wide recent image direct from my website, and compare that to the uploaded one below. They should be identical.

Apart from a speck of dark matter hitching a ride on the IIS image's wing, I cannot tell the difference. Either my eyes are shot or you are a fussy man, Troy :D

Hi Troy

The images are not further compressed - they are simply uploaded as is.

Images are not modified if they are under the size limit.
Images are modified if they are over the size limit. In which case, the forum software will try to reduce the size of the image to meet the attachment size limits. Currently that is 200KB per attachment.

Regarding your images, they are identical to me.

The black background vs white background can make them look a bit different, but I took a screenshot of both images, and layered them in photoshop and blink compared them, and there's absolutely no difference.

I even changed the blend mode to 'difference' and I got a black screen - so the images are identical.

Hehe. No, that's not what I am talking about. That was a dust spot I healed after the upload here. :)

Hmm, I hadn't thought of trying that, difference layer blending, to test. I must be going crazy, or there's some optical illusion going on.

Sorry for the waste of time.
