Anyone know where in Perth to get good non-reflective flat black paint ?
Krylon is meant to be the best but I believe Bunnings dont have it.
I'm thiking maybe Perth Hobby shop might have something?

I tried to get this paint when I made the 8" scope but couldn1t source it anywhere. Ended up using Killrust flat black which is easy to get and is quiet black but not as flat as other paints.

Leinad, just in case you're thinking of painting the inside of your OTA I'd recommend flocking instead. Mate paint will always shine to some extent. True flocking make a world of difference IMHO.

I got spray cans of Krylon Ultra Flat Black for my scopes from an auto supply place but it was some years ago now. It is often used as a camouflage paint for hunting etc. as well so may be in these type shops too.
It is a bit blacker than chalkboard paint but you can just use that instead.
Textured flocking (like protostar) will absorb more light than both. If using in a newt tube then the area opposite the focuser is the most important bit to make absorb light.

Very cool article. This fidelio black velvet seems even better than the protostar. Wow! I got rolls of protostar stuff in my cupboard. I bought more than I needed. I use it all the time. It's back is adhesive and it's very easy to use.

Spider vane. I've test some Matt black enamel. Is quite good.
Thanks for the links and tips; have kept saved to refer to.

Only painting it now, because the vanes have been machined thinner and the cast aluminum is exposed.
First coat should be nice and dry when I get home today :)

Applied two coats; works quite well, nice dull flat black. It could be a bit more coarse but will do for now.
ex ES
