Hey all:

Picked up a losmandy dovetail for my 10" dob. Also got my hands on two 10" rings. However the threads in the relevant holes do not match.

The bar has two threaded holes for the rings. The rings have two threaded holes. Neither match. The rings are a M6 thread while the bar is a smaller, unknown thread.

Is it standard to take a drill to the bar and remove the threading?

This is the bar: http://www.skiesunlimited.net/index.php?ProductID=876, recomended by a highly thought of (and still highly thought of :P) local dealer.

Thanks

Anthony

Hi Anthony

It appears you may have metric type William Optics type dimension rings...(do they measure up like these (http://www.williamoptics.com/accessories/images/mounting115_topView.jpg)?)...that use M6 screws & 60/80mm between screws.

You can buy metric Losmandy type DUP universal dovetails from ADM (http://admaccessories.com/D_Series_Universal.htm) to fit these measurements. Just use the pull down tab to see the metric versions available.

If these are indeed the measurements you needed (on your rings & dovetail plate) then you may have been incorrectly advised.

Drill to your heart is content, I have more holes in mine than the gold fields of Ballarat.
