Have just acquired some gear that has a 12V cigareete plug - i want to run th equipment off my 12V battery - is there an adapter i can get that is cig female plug one end & clamps other end? if so where can i buy

thanks - i looked there but got a bum steer from a too busy txt-ing ales guy - what a bugger i cannot order because it snot $10, i told the girl to add on 5c but she wouldn't

I got one at Autobarn for not very much and it shorted first time I used it. Not impressed with what passes for QC with some of this junk.

That one was obviously faulty - but I wouldn't want to pull many amps through the one I have - wires will probably melt!

That looks like the same one Dick Smith sell. Does it have an inline fuse? The clamps won't fit over the standard 12V battery cable terminators (the ones that go to the alternator).

I replaced them with a pair of 50A clamps.

Its not a good idea to use cigarette lighter plug attachments. They may come with a lot of gear but they are touchy and unreliable, as per another post in this thread. Better off getting propper terminals to start with.
