I have a 12" SW Collapsible Dob and was looking at fitting a Telrad. The secondary mirror housing on my scope is 19 cm in length (between the white bans) while the length of the Telrad is listed as 21 cm, which means -it don't fit. Looking at photos of Telrads, the base appears shorter that the actual unit. If anyone has a Telrad, could they give me the measurements of the base, or if anyone with a 10" or 12" Collapsible SW dob and a Telrad, how is it mounted?

The Telrad web site and they give dimensions of the unit as:
Length 21.3 cm
Width 4.7 cm
Height 12.7 cm (mounted on base, no base measurements)
Weight 30 gm.

Thanks

I have a base in front of me now...

Length: 17.2 cm
Width: 5.8 cm
Height: 18 cm (outside edge), 1 cm (centre)

FYI: The length of the unit quoted on their website at 21.3 cm is including the 3 collimation screws at the rear.

ive one on my 8" coll-dob i stuck it on with the d/sided tape supplied its a little longer but only bt 5mm not a prob then put 2 bolts through it to make shore the base sits up a little at the front but you have plenty of adjustment with the 3 screws at the back of the telrad to still align with scope

Hi Rod.

Since you have room for the 17.2cm base you could use one of these risers to clear the ends of the UTA:

http://www.scopestuff.com/ss_tele.htm

or sold in Australia by:

http://www.telescopes-astronomy.com.au

Also makes it a bit easier to look through.

Thanks fellas, that's exactly what I wanted to know. Go to the right place, ask the question and you get the right answers.

Thanks
