Afternoon all.

I'm looking into Houghy's recommendation of a Williams Optics dielectric 2" diagonal for the C9.25.

Who stocks Willams Optics gear???

spring to mind. Don't know about prices though.
OS try http://www.optcorp.com and do a product search for Diagonals

There are three dealers in Australia, one in SA and two in NSW. The W.O. website has each one listed in the dealers section.

I would not recommend the SA retailer, very expensive as a rule.

William Optics 2" SCT Dielectric Star Diagonal was advertised at Adelaide Optical for $349 last month. OPT have them for US$230 (AU$307) + postage.
http://www.optcorp.com/product.aspx?pid=3509&kw=diagonal&st=2
Telescopes.com are US$229.

Getting a WO diagonal is near the top of my shopping list too. From those prices, Adelaide Optical is actually quite reasonable for a change so that's where I'll be going unless something cheaper comes up.

If you go through OPT, you won't have to wait six weeks Jonathon. Both EXFSO and I have waited long periods of time in the past and then slugged, when they say it is x dollars now. At least with OPT, you should have it in 10 days at the latest. Choice is yours though. I must dig my OPT card out and get a WO diag myself. I have an orion mirror diag which is ok but throws my collimation out.

Good point Paul. So I should ring up before going in to AO (might get lucky!), and if he hasn't got one go straight OS before the Aussie dollar gets any worse.

Hey Tony is yours for sale?

Yeah you might get lucky Jonathan. Good luck. See if you can knock them down a bit. Just run it past them, like is that your best price or "whats your best price on that". Also try mentioning my name. Believe it or not I sent a lot of people to them before I got wise to their pricing structure. Either way don't pay what they initially advertised. Anyway I am sure you don't need me telling you how to suck eggs. Best of Luck.

Jonathon ive tried ordering items from the 2 prominent outlets west of the SA/vic border and in all occasions ive canned the order due to extended waiting , even one of the WO agents listed here failed to answer a email within the time OPT recived and delivered a item. Lesson learnt , full marks to OPT , place the order before wednesday of a new week {USPS postal pickup} and your set to have your good delivered within 7 days

Thanks Stuart that confirms what I was saying.

It sounds like OPT would be the easiest. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Also something I'm considering, but not sure yet. Saw the package in S&S for $850, has anyone seen it for less?

Thanks alot guys.....I wouldn't mind another ED 80 for my travell set up.

Do these have a focus lock on them...something I wished the orion ED 80 had.

You can buy the williams optic focuser with rotator for the ed80. it fits perfectly and has focus lock. I had one on my ED80 before upgrading to the Moonlight dual rate focuser. I now use the WO one on a guidescope,

We are currently selling the next shipment of the ZS80 package for $795. This includes the 2" dielectric diagonal and your choice of the VR-1 filter or a 20mm Swan EP. Plus P&H

If you buy from overseas, you run the risk of your warranty being invaild. several of our manufactures have stated they will not honor these warranties.

I have been looking at these myself for the future, not sure how I would want to use it. more for imaging and wide FOV visual. So I would be looking at the short focal length model. They certainly look well made.

Mick, have you done any imaging with your?

regards,CS

Its a risk you take when buying overseas with a warranty being void outside the US but the dealers ive corresponded with will forward and process a warranty claim if the item is posted back to them and as far as i can tell and have experianced they do a full check before sending goods.

Well, it's pretty much common knowledge that I love these scopes. As an astronomer *and* as an engineer I appreciate the build quality and optical quality. I have three M80II's, will soon be upgrading to a fluorite and then if I get real lucky, an FLT next year.

After-sales sevice is a wonder to, to be honest. I have *not* bought any of mine new but on the few times I have had any issues Daniel at WO could not have been more helpful and accomodating.

Hold everything! There's a new kid on the block. (Well, just around the corner.)

You've just gotta love William Optics. They are constantly mixing things up for us amateurs, making it that much harder to know what or when to buy.

Drool on...

Mmm - got one coming :P Should be shipped next week:prey: Well, got an FD cell coming to swap out one of the semi-apo Megrez cells (yes, I know it won't reach focus without an extension - but hey - I *make* extensions  )

CO designed by TMB as well....I think you want one Tony....$1350, it's affordable, now if only they bundle it with the dielectric diagonal...:confuse3:

I think TMB supply WO with lens for all there scopes , from what ive made out by the chatter on CN or the WO yahoo group anywhy . They sure do make a great looking scope , came so close to getting a megrez i wonder if the fluorite doublet of this scope addresses the problems some users have had with the triplet design of the megrez ed. What about the new 100mm Zenithstar ed now thats something :)

Hey Rod,,,,Thanks for the wrap mate...

The ZS80 Fluorites will start shipping from WO on the 7th Nov...The word from WO is that there might only be one batch run of this scope in the 10th year anniversary Tube. If anyone wishes to secure the 10th year anniversary Edition let me know before Nov 7th as availability will be limited due to demand WO is receiving from other countries.

....and what's the price?

Daniel Beringer
29-10-2005, 09:45 AM
WO Will more than likely revert back to the black colour scheme of the other ZS80 telescopes. The price is approx $1325. If there are several people wishing to order then a discount of around $40 can be given due to savings on freight.

I was hoping the difference was in the colour...I think I'll wait for the black thanks....:D
