Most impressive. I wonder how much?

Well... there is speculation it should exceed $US30,000 and possibly be in the range $US50,000 - $75,000.

Gotta love machinery that oozes quality the way this unit does. Stunning instrument.

At the end of the day it is still only an 8" telescope, which IMO is a pretty small one. No value for money with that scope. Something for the rich and famous, just to say "I own it".

Cheers,

Well I cant afford 50K. I did however just pick up my own new MAK. A Skywatcher 150mm (after some advice from this group). The HEQ5 Pro is still on order. It seems a nice unit, nicely finished and the terrestrial views are very promising.

Precisely John. I doubt that a buyer of this scope would consider "value for money" a prerequisite. Just to have it would be good enough - a one-off piece of astro history. Some people buy expensive vintage cars and put them in a locked garage - and they're certainly not performers in the modern sense.

Anybody paying more then 10K for that would have to have their head read.

Looks hot, but doesn't appear to be any sizeable instrument at all for $30,000 bucks.

I'd rather have my $30,000-70,000 bucks go on 30 or 40-something inch SDM with all the works. ;)

Pics are still there but no info ,Whats the optical uniqueness / or who owned it that makes its so valuable ?

Now back to the real world...nice looking scope(s) but seriously ridiculous prices.

Its who made it, and the wait time to get one which are the two main factors that i think make it valuable to some. While i have no doubt this scope would be excellent. Its not practical to spend so much on a scope of 8". The price of AP scopes is inflated due to the nature of the waiting time to get one.

If the intention is to use the telescope for astronomy then i think other scopes one smaller budgets will suffice. From a practical use stand point one must consider how much more performance you are actually going to get out of it for the price. I am sure there are other scopes out there that approach the same quality and are more affordable.

For example this 7" Questar

Even this at almost 9000usd i think is quiet high, considering for not much more you could get a Planewave CDK 17". But it depends on what your use is for the telescope. Visual or Imaging or both.
