Hi all
I am a bit of a newby to the astronomy world. I have recently bought a Skywatcher 200mm Newtonian on an EQ5 GOTO mount. It came with a 2inch 28mm skywatcher eyepiece and 2 cheap plossls. I have been reading around and the reviews for the Baader Hyperion 8 -24mm zoom appear to be pretty impressive. I thought that this may be a good option even though the cost is quite high, it covers a wide range of focal lengths and would mean that I wouldn't have to get many other eyepieces.

I would be grateful of any opinions out there regarding this.

Cheers

Chris

Chris, please read up some more on apparent field of view (AFOV) of eyepieces. The zooms typically have fields of view not much better than plossls and that has to be weighed against the benefit of the adjustable focal length. If you just want to look at the Moon and planets it is probably not an issue. If you want to do widefield galaxies/nebulae, the narrow AFOV becomes apparent quickly.
