Bino tripod mount

Hey people, I saw this thing (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220397903670&_trkparms=tab%3DWatching)on ebay. It looks like it would do a reasonable job but I can't work out how it would attach to my binoculars. I assume you would need a threaded hole to suit the bolt but my binoculars don't have this, in fact I don't think I've ever seen a pair that does. Anyone got a clue on this?

Most modern binoculars have a threaded hole under a screw off cap between the barrels, on the pivot axis - opposite end to the eyepieces. Might be a little picture or some words on the cap that give you a clue. Older binoculars (eg. my 1960's pair!) may not have this.

This one for sale will be plastic. If you have bigger binoculars, I'd go for a metal one. They sell for around $19-20.

Thanks erik, yeah mine are an old Russian pair I bought in a disposal store back in 1985. No thread on these I'm afraid. Oh well.

I built up a wooden version for my old binoculars - that clamps around the pivot bar.

Clayton , there are commercial ones to purchase, i think nikon has one available for about 40 US, hunt around

Then again there is this alternative, the nice bloke trading this, has the mount part at the top which has the threaded part: http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=43999 if only he wasn't so lazy and would take a photograph, then everyone could see it :P
