Brand-new EQ6 owner here.......

After I enter all the location and time data in the hand controller, )all southern hemisphere stuff), the display says

Polaris HA=22:48
Clock=06:35

Why is it displaying Polaris in the first place? I just entered Southern co-ordinates and times.

If I hit enter after this display and go for a three star alignment, (the first being Sirius), the whole telescope points completely the wrong way!

Any ideas EQ6 users?

Baz.

It sounds like the scope thinks it's in the Northern Hemisphere. Are you sure you entered the latitude correctly as S when turning the mount on?

PS: step 6 on page 5 of the handset manual

Yep! Positive.

So you get info about Polaris after finishing entering the data but before beginning alignment? I've never seen mine tell me anything about Polaris.

Let me have another look at the manual

This is what my handset shows in sequence during the setup steps:

144° 41' E 36° 48' S
-10 (hours)
12/27/2008

Are you entering your data in exactly that format?

Yep, except that in the eastern side of Australia, I am on +10 (hours)

I just did the whole thing again. It still comes up with Polaris, don't know why, but this time the time had changed. I re-entered the time and it worked.

It went straight to M42 when asked, so it appears to be ok. I still don't know why the initial set-up still displays Polarid even though all the data entered is for southern hemisphere.

Yes +10, not -10, my typo.

I figured out why it shows the Polaris data - this is a new feature for version 3.11. According to the version 3.11 updates for the manual it will show this Polaris data whether you are in the north or the south. My mount being an older version this data isn't shown.

Sounds like you've got it working then.

Baz,

Mine does the same thing - just ignore it and hit enter.
