Hi all

It's with great pleasure that I announce and welcome David Hough (h0ughy) as a new moderator on IceInSpace.

Our list of moderators has been stable for a long time, and with an excellent community that's capable of self-moderation there hasn't been a need to increase our gaggle of moderators until now.

With some recent changes in personal lives, a few moderators simply won't have as much time to spend online anymore.

Janoskiss (Steve) simply didn't have the time to commit anymore and asked to be removed as a moderator about 2 months ago, which I regrettably agreed to do. I'd like to thank Steve for his contributions, help and friendship over the past couple of years.

xstream (John) and his wife Anna will now be on the road in their campervan, travelling from star party to star party and across our wide brown land. John will still remain a moderator but won't be able to get online as much as he used to (lucky his campervan has satellite! :)).

RB (Andrew), acropolite (Phil) and [1ponders] (Paul) will now be joined by h0ughy (Dave).

Dave has been a long-time member of IceInSpace, and during his time on IceInSpace he's become a great friend. Dave is widely known on IceInSpace, and legend has it that his face is recognised throughout the universe, simply through his avatar here on IceInSpace :)

Dave has made a great many contributions over the years, and he has been on the organising committee of all 3 IISAC's where his help and support have been invaluable.

I think Dave has at one time or another owned every piece of astronomical equipment ever available on the shelves, and his knowledge, friendliness and helpfulness, combined with his loyalty and friendship to IceInSpace, are just what we look for in a moderator and I'd like to thank him, and welcome him to his new role on IceInSpace.

Being a moderator is a mostly thankless task, and can at times be worrying and stressful, so please give Dave some time to ease in gently as he learns the ropes. With the continued self-moderation and friendly attitudes shown by the IceInSpace community i'm sure he'll have no trouble at all getting up to speed.

Thanks Dave, and :welcome:

Hi Mike

Thanks for the update on the “life of moderators”; their contribution to the success of the site is crucial and is certainly much appreciated - they all do a top job and for that I thank them.

Okay, moving onto our own Mr H0ugh. Well, what more can I say about this Ice In Space legend, indeed Icon! You couldn’t meet a nicer bloke, on-line or at a star party so congratulations on the appointment David and I wish you every success in your new role.

To outgoing Steve – thanks for your contribution to Ice In Space and best wishes in your new, un-moderated life!

Cheers

Dennis

Makes sense. "Moderate" is a pretty good adjective. Congratulations, Dave.
Actually, three cheers for all the moderators for keeping this ship of fools well-steered and on course.

I think the only reason Houghy accepted this position was so that he could setup a personal RSS feed to the IceTrade Section.

Thanks guys,

a daunting task, and a challenge to find the time. RB need to talk to you on that suggestion LOL. John and Anna - you will never be that far away - especially with that big broadband aerial of John's - though his sense of direction might come into question. (thanks for the delivery to the doctors too for the HEQpro5 - it has come back with a new lease of life)

My heartiest congratulations h0ughy, it obviously an indication of the respect that all who walk these halls hold for you. Well deserved I say!

Now if only we can get Phil back up for Astrofest next year, along with yourself and the good Mr Ponders we'll have 3 Mods all together in one place at the same time.

(anyone else thinking Critical Mass ??)

"Better late than never", as they say.
Heartiest congratulations on your "Modship" h0ughy.
As one mod (Mozillazine) to another, just be wery, wery careful with all
those fancy new buttons, eh wot!
Can't have you deleting too many posts now can we?
Moderation with common sense/decency will do fine.
You can always bring out the big pointy stick if/when needed.
(Just don't sit on it).
;)
Regards, Laurie..
