Hi all,

I was wondering, if anyone knows of any contraptions that make it possible to connect a camera lens, a Canon EF-type, specifically, to a Meade DSI, to use for very basic autoguiding? Perhaps with a barlow between the lens and DSI?

Thanks for any information.

Regards,
Humayun

Humayun,
Steven Mogg is the local guy who will have what you want. I am not sure about the barlow and lens idea, too hard. If you really must, then use a Canon (or similar) converter. With your impressive arsenal of EF lenses though I am sure you will find something that works. I have been using a converted 8x50 finder, just the objective no eyepiece, so it is a great system to try.

Agree with Gary, try Steven Mogg for a suitable adapter H !

Didn't you already have a guidescope last time we met or am I mistaken?

Gary,

Thanks, heaps! That was the name I was trying to think of -- I had recommended him to other people in the past, and forgot about him myself, lol!

Thanks for the finderscope idea!

Andrew,

Thanks, mate.

Last time we met, I still had the LX90. I sold that a while ago, now, so, just have the ED80. I was thinking of sticking with just what I have at the moment, as all my pennies will go towards a 5D Mark II. Trying to do things on the cheap, and, I'm happy to do wider field images. The only object I got to shoot through the ED80 was the Pleiades.

I've got an itch to get back into this hobby.

Thanks, guys!

Regards,
Humayun

I remember you selling the LX90, just wasn't sure now what you had to image with.
So now you'll use the G11 and ED80 with a guiding lens and DSI, right?

Mate I've just started guiding too with an Orion Short Tube 80 and PHD and I love it, I was doing 10 min subs on M31 until the weather put an end to the session.

If you do decide on another guidescope, I highly recommend the Orion Short Tube 80's.

Right now, all I have is the ED80 and lenses.

I'm looking up the Orion Short Tube 80, right now.

Thanks. :)

Humayun

P.S. I tried sending you an email, but, it bounced. Will send you a private message.

Here's the Bintel links:

$299 complete: https://www.bintelshop.com.au/Product.aspx?ID=5404
&
$219 OTA only: https://www.bintelshop.com.au/Product.aspx?ID=7877

I've also had to get a 1.25" extension tube to bring the guide camera into focus.

(Yep I've changed ISP's so I'll PM you my email).

Well that $299 link is now $369... But I looked at the Televue 127mm OTA - price moved from $8.2K to $13K plus - ouch 60% price move on a 25% currency move = hurt!
