On 3rd June an optical filter was sent by registered post, and lost in
transit. The PO acknowledged that they lost it, but now into the
18th week they are still evading payment requiring and endless
stream of questionaires to be submitted. Why can they not ask all
the questions on the first round and why does it take 7-14 days to
get a reply to a letter ?
Does anyone know of a way of sending small packages that are
insurable with a reputable insurer becind it ?

I believe that delivery by Courier is much more reliable.

Hi Gerald
Sorry to hear about your filter.
I had a problem with a lost mobile phone from Ebay once and after two or three days of stuffing around from Australia Post I shot a letter of to the Postal Industry Ombudsman, http://www.pio.gov.au/index.html and low and behold if my phone wasn't mysteriously delivered within 48 hours of receipt of the e/mail and I received an apology to boot. After all the phone was travelling all the way from Homebush to Mascot.
Good luck with sorting it out and please let us all know how you get on.
Regards
Wayne

Yes, Use a courier.
More expensive, but also more secure, & usually within 5 days from anywhere.
You still need to insure your items.
Also, if you are getting it sent from overseas, check out the particular courier company's "Import Regulations".
If your import is under $1000 it does not need to be cleared through customs, but SOME courier companies will charge a Customs Clearance Fee for ALL items they bring into Australia regardless of the $1000 rule.
I have accounts with DHL, TNT, FEDEX, Allied express & SKYNET
I mainly use SKYNET because all shipments, regardless of origin, are controlled from my account holder in Australia. I just have to call 1 person in Brisbane to arrange a shipment from me to anywhere, or from anywhere to me.
Other courier companies require me to deal with the office in the origin country or city, & to me that's a pain.

Lost Post is almost usually a Lost Cause.
We use Australian Air Express and have had the best service with them.
Online Tracking at every point of the way.
But they're not suitable for everyone. Need a sizable weekly amount before they do a contract with you at a good rate.
