I want to use software such as Starry Night Pro as a planetarium program with my GM8 running Gemini. For this I need a cable from computer to mount. The Gemini manual has instructions for putting together such a cable but I was wondering if there is anyone who knows if you can buy an off the shelf cable. I had a glance at Shoestring Astronomy but didn't find anything obvious.

You could try Peter Ward at ATS or OPT, they have several versions up to about 100ft.

You could also try Astronomy Stores, not sure if he still sells overseas or not though, he has all sorts of cables and things.

I run my G11 Gemini with Starry Night Pro Plus V5 using a USB to RS-232 Adaptor and lead bought from a computer shop and also a RS-232 traditional 9 pin plug to a 4 pin RS-232 plug ( which fits in the Gemini port). The latter came from my Meade LPI. All works well.
