does anyone know if the Baader Hyperion 8-24mm Zooms can be purchased in Oz?

Cheers,

I believe Andrews Comms stock them. Don't know if they're in stock currently - give them a call.

YES, York Optical have them.:D I bought one about 3 months ago. (Brissie):P They are called "Click zoom" 8, 12, 16, 20, 24 mm. It is the best eyepiece I have and I have no reason to use any others. Very good quality, either 1.25 or 2 inch. At 8 mm, fov is same as the regular Hyperion (I think it is 68 degrees) At 24 mm, just a little less.
Very good eye relief you adjust by just twisting the rubber cup. GO FOR IT:D:D Cost about $399 - worth every penny

What are they like at EOF and how do they compare with the Teleview at $249?

What's EOF Steve?? Only thing I can say is that the chap at York Optical showed me a "cheaper" zoom eyepiece, (no idea of the brand) and it was awful - felt sloppy I thought it was going to break in half. The Baader is big, heavy and so solid. Good firm clicks between each setting;)
I use mine on all sorts, Joops, Moon DSO especially clusters ie Eta area. Start at 24 mm on that monster cluster, then click down to zoom in for more detail. Magic and all without having to change EP and refocus again:thumbsup:
Sorry Steve, I guess EOF is edge of field. Well it seems really good -
I cant remember having to re-centre the edge stars into the middle. It is certainly better than my Meade 26 mm QX on the EOF.

Thanks Jim...and yeah edge of field.

I've never looked through a zoom EP but I can see they have a lot of merit, especially if using a filter..save swapping it between EP's etc..

I'd like to have a look through a couple before outlaying a sum of cash

Thanks guys

I'll chase that up with YO tomorrow. Although at that price I have also emailed OPTCORP in California as they have them for US$215.
