Hi,

Is there much difference between the HEQ5Pro and the EQ5 Synscan? There is only $100 difference at Andrews, but is the HEQ5Pro worth the extra?

Just to complicate things... How would a CG-5 mount compare?

Not even close...either the EQ or HEQ5 Pro will leave it lying in the dust.

Looks like prices have gone up on both these mounts at Andrews!!!

I have the EQ5 Synscan and it works very well but I would rather have the HEQ5!!

isn't the cg5 the same as an eq5??

Can I ask what you base that opinion on?

I have a Cg-5 and a while ago aslo had an EQ5, they were close to being identical
Dougnsuz did a brief but factual comaparison in this thread....

One thing to consider is weight.

I bought the HEQ5Pro but I realised it's weight would deter me from wanting to set it up outside - especially my house is built on a sloping block with a gully out the back, so land has been cut with 3 levels.

I was able to send it back and get the EQ5 with steel legs, which is still very stable but not so heavy. I have a Skywatcher 120mm refractor mounted on it.

So consider weight of mount and also depends what scope (re: weight) you will mount.

The EQ5 is not too noisy when slewing. I don't have to worry that my neighbours can hear it - their bedroom is about 15m from where I usually setup. Actually I like the whining noise as it slews - a pleasant tone and sounds very hi-tech!
