LOL Ed, now that's cruel.
Don't you know he just bought a 127mm APO.

Hey !!
Maybe you can mount it on the LB Houghy and drive both with the servo cat.

:confuse3: :poke:

Houghy I don't know the price for the kit. I'd say you would have to send him an email.
Gary Myers will also send you more pics of the installation if you want.

This is his web site http://www.stellarcat.com/

Guys heads up there is Generation 1 Servocat up for sale on Amart for 400$ that is cheap. Houghy you can also consider the siderealtechnolgy.com system. Both Servocat and Sitech systems work with AN and Skycommander DSC's to provide standalone operation.

I dont think you'll get much change out of US$1500.00 for Servocat-jnr. I
was flirting with the idea myself but then I thought for a 16" dob it would
be over kill since they're so easy to just push at that size.

Rob the thing is that it's a pleasure to use a GoTo system on any scope.
Once you use it you'll never look back.
They are pricey but in my opinion there worth it.

Thats why I've added an Argo Navis to my project. I'm sure it would be cool
to have servocat, they sure do look cool when you see a large aperture
scope zero in on a target. But for me I reckon it would be just as easy with
a 16" to push and watch the read out on the AN. However on the next scope
I build, I'll definitely be looking into it.

Im in the same camp. Pushing a well tuned dob isnt hard with the argo finding the targets for you. I have a goto HEQ5 mount and find waiting for it slew to objects to be painful. I could push-to and find in 1/4 the time.

I generally agree (pushing with the AN is sufficient) with exception of nights that I am helping others try and see things...

If they are not experienced viewers (or young) it is a royal pain at high powers trying to help them keep things in the FOV without readjusting before each new veiwer...I can't tell you how many times things get "bumped"during the transition process and well you get the picture.

Hi Ed,

Gary Kopff here from Wildcard Innovations. As you know, we work closely
with StellarCAT and they are also Argo Navis resellers.

StellarCAT are advertising the StellarCAT LB kit for US$1199 FOB Arizona.

or you can add an Argo Navis to the system as well for full slew (aka 'GOTO') and
track support.

Hi Rob,

Where the ServoCAT really comes into its own is the tracking rather than the
slewing. When the seeing is exceptional and you are throwing a lot of magnification
at the target, some say the ability of the scope to track is like adding a couple of
extra inches of aperture. Anecdotally, I tend to agree. With the brain less
preoccupied with having to nudge the scope all the time, the visual system,
comprising both the eye and the brain, seems to be able to concentrate more
on perceiving the details of the object at hand. In other words, it can help with visual
acuity.

As Scott mentioned, it is also a wonderful feature to have when you are
entertaining a queue.

The slew part (i.e. GOTO) is really the icing on the cake. I have to admit though
that again when you are sharing the scope with one or more people, it's nice
to be able to push the button, let the motors do the work and keep the discussion
flowing. :)

Indeed, something to consider for the future! :)

I got the ServoCat for the tracking capability as well as the slewing. The ArgoNavis and the ServoCat are a great combo. At our NAS public viewing nights when a lot of people like to come and have a look I just pick the object of interest on the ArgoNavis and then hit one button on the remote controller of the ServoCat and it's done!
Once the objected is in the FOV it stays there and I go and have a cuppa while people are stepping up having a look.

I would not build another telescope unless I had the ArgoNavis and ServoCat to put on it.
