Hello my friends.

I am new in here and so I am in astrophotography.

I’m acquiring a Tasco 8V this week. It has a great high quality Polaris mount of Celestron/Vixen.
I would just like to upgrade it a bit though.

Does it worth it on this telescope, to add the sky watcher, the GOTO with PC assist, if it is feasible to do it at that?

+ If so, could I use these upgrade on another telescope eventually?

OK, enough for now. I still have more to ask you if you can help.

BTW What was the initial price of this 1996 Tasco 8V at the time?

Thanks

Hello my friends.

I was shopping for a telescope and as I am a newbe I thought this one would be a good choice to start with...tasco 8V

Since it has a great mount on it Ihought I could upgrade it.

I know that most of you have 8 10 and more,

I want to use it for astrophotography.
So I think I should spend a few more$ to get into a all in one GOTO .

What is your advice on it? I'm not rich these days.
Thanks

mate, have a browse of the site and I think you will get a feel for the gear you might want. the 8v would have been the bees knees many years ago but no more for a new starter

I think you will be disappointed with the 8V for Astrophotography. From memory it only has a 1.25" focuser so you will not be able to add a DSLR. I don't even know if it will come to focus with a camera attached. You might be able to get it to work with a modified webcam (DMK, DBK or DFK maybe).

My suggestion would be to seriously consider a small (80mm) ED refractor with a smaller guidescope on a HEQ5 mount or 6" or 8" newt/SN with guidescope an EQ6 mount unless you can get some motors for the Polaris (it will probably be to "light" anyway for two scopes). The polaris with motors would be good for widefield imaging with just a camera.

Thanks for your advices my friends.
I thought I could use it for awhile and then upgrade keeping the Vixen mount for the other one. What is it about this Vixen mount that every one cherich so much?

About the other telescopes you are suggesting, any links would be helpfull, you know I want to use it for astrophotography.

Also, I'd like to link it to my PC with the USB/Digital eye piece but my question is...Can I still use my DSLR Camera at the same time?

Now, you see how a green I am.

The vixen mounts are well made and have a reasonably small peiodic error when tracking. They will also usually take the advertised maximim weight rather than being overloaded like lots of other brands.

So If I still buy the Tasco 8V,,,for 150CAN$, can I use the Vixen mount on a more pro telescope? I want to use a GOTO on it also.

And What about these telescopes, they are pretty cheap$ but are they worth...

It's a fairly old mount Hermas. Any chance of having a look through the scope before buying?

If you are not thinking of doing astrophotography then you would probably be better off with something like this http://www.optcorp.com/product.aspx?pid=1-637-640-7589
and get away from an equatorial mount altogether.

Hello my friends.

Here I am again.

For a starter, untill I can upgrade for better when I have the money.
From what I saw...

I think I need to spend over 1500$ for a GOTO, even used. So for now...

What do you think about this one?
I could even upgrade it with a motor eventually I think.
