Question:

What telescope can you pack in the overhead compartment of your Jet Star and see stars as faint as 15th mag?

Answer:

It works like a night vision scope to see faint objects.:D

It dose take away your night vision a wee bit, because of the Brightness
put off by the intensifier.:eyepop:

i just Loved looking thru this scope and image intensifier down under:scared:

See the web site for more details:

Now that's an interesting concept. However, a reasonably hefty price tag, plus you have to change your citizenship if you aren't already a US citizen!! :D

"Generation 3 image intensifiers may only be owned or transferred to citizens of the United States of America. This includes the sale of used I3 intensified eyepieces. Email any change of ownership information to Collins Electro Optics."

I'd like to read the S&T review, but the article costs $s to download

Edit: I'll take this into its own thread

Wow Lance!
That's a really cool scope and mount never mind the image intensifier. Do you ever get out here to the west side of Oz?

yea that image intensifier is so cutting edge that the US military won't let it out of their sights! You got to swear on your Mumm's life not to let it fall into the wrong hands! i looked at 47 Tuc thru' an 18 inch dob, then the Tak 90 w/the image intensifier; well that little scope showed twice as many stars! :D Then we did the same with Eta Carnia........:scared:

be well, Lance aka "abellhunter"

i sure would love to hit western OZ! i was told Perth has the highest number of Millionairs in OZ..... must be some nice private observatories;). The one that comes to mind is Akira Fujii:eyepop:....

http://www.davidmalin.com/fujii/fujii_index.html

On Kent Wallace's webb site he gives a nice write up of the sky and his observing projects in West OZ.

i am currently looking to build an observatory in the southern hemisphere
and this last trip to Coonabarabran was quite good! Next trip will be to
the Alice and Nimbin..... but if you have any good ideas of a place on your coast let me know!

Hi Lance, that looks a great top quality small set up for grab and go. And having an image intensifier on it is a smart idea.

I have looked through one of these during a meteor shower and it picked up 3 to 4 meteors with the intensifier to one that you could see with the eye.
A place in Australia for an observatory, MMMMmmm I hear the top end of QLD is good for steady skies.

Another good place is where QLD astrofest was held. Up by Esk & Moore area.
Far away from local lights and not too far away if you need to get to town. For me Lance everywhere in Australia is good coming from UK skies. :) It’s god’s country over here. :)

ps
Have you had any luck with taking photos with this on the scope? Does it allow you to attach a camera to the scope.

Dont forget out West, I think back on my time in Mt Isa and wish I'd had a telescope then. Travel 10kms out of town and the sky was simply magnificent. And it only rains one month a year. ;)
