Its that time of year again but what have you bought that you regret buying?
I have to confess that I've purchased some crappy cheap eyepieces that I shouldn't have as well as some 1 1/4" coloured filters that have not seen any use for the last 6 years.
Whats been your impulsive purchase that you have lived to regret.

The worst things I ever bought were my first 150mm newt, turned out to be a real pain to collimate, and probably the same set of filters you got

My laser pointer from ebay. Not really that bad, but dunno if it has a filter in it or not.

Interesting, Gazz...I'm in the market for a wedding ring! LoL. Bad purchase, then?

The ring was great but the finger I put it on could have belonged to a better person. ;)lol

LOL Gazz !!

I regret buying my first astro mag.
It should've come with a Reserve Bank warning label: Danger Slippery Slide. :P

I regret not having an observatory and buying eyepieces - I dont use them anymore? Also buying mags - they are not good for the wallet and forum members posting cheap bargins and nice gadgets to buy..........

I'd have to say the 'Ab Roller 2000 (with workout video)" or the "Hand Hammered Chinese Wok (with authentic recipe book)"...neither has gotten much use since they were acquired in a fit of insomnia from late night TV. I will never part with my Ginzu Knives nor my "Rotato" (which will nicely peel a potato or apple). Gee Whiz those Infomercial People sure know how to sell!

With respect to Astro Gear, I'm pretty happy with most of my gear and don't really regret any purchase...although as others have noted, my lovely wife my not necessarily share my opinion.

I don't regret buying anything, and/or being into this hobby, if it were not for this interest and friendship I have received here, I would have been in some very ordinary situation, :thanks:

Hey Guys, im seeing a trend here, lets see if i can make this formula work..... Telescopes and Acc = Happiness x money........Happiness = money / wife........ Wife = Relationship x wedding ring / Money

Compromise = Wife x Happiness / Telescopes x Money

Am i on the right path here??

Maybe someone can double check my formulae......

formula looks good ..one of the entries can be variable though and as such
can make it hard for the formula to always work :P

A Meade #140 barlow, the coatings started to pit some months after buying
it. It has been kept in the same ep box as my other ep's and barlows, treated
with the same respect I give all my optical equipment and is the only one
that has been effected. Next would be the Meade LPI although I enjoyed
playing around with it with some cool results, the novelty lasted about 5
minutes. Brought for $240 managed to get $70.00 resale.

I could say that I regretted buying that wobbly 60mm refractor off Ebay.
But it started me off me off in this hobby, fed the obsession and gave me many many hours of viewing pleasure over the year that I used it.

I regret buying everything astro that I had to sell a year or so later - at half the purchase price. Most of the stuff was actually working good except I wanted "better".
This would include:
LX90 8"
Saxon 60/900 mak
set of 4 Bintel Plossls
pair of 20mm supeviews
Meade QX 20mm
Meade S4000 26mm
Meade S5000 14mm
TAL 25mm ultra wide
TV Panoptic 22mm - a lemon with damaged optics I unknowingly bought on this forum
Vixen zoom 8-24

I hope and pray that now I have put a stop to this madness or at least put a hold on it...

I regret buying my Losmandy GM-8. I'm disappointed with it's capabilities and think in the end the Sphinx would have suited me better and had the same tracking capabilities for half the price  .. but now that I have the GM-8 I'm persevering with it and will probably eventually sell it to fund a new CCD or primary telescope.

After selling my classic C-8 in 1990 which I had since being a teenager, I bought a ebay 6" reflector about 5 years ago....absolute rubbish! wouldn`t even focus to a nice diffraction disc...luckily I got a full refund and bought some better stuff from a proper supplier!
cheers

Just remembered that very early on I bought an overpriced 4" reflector on a homemade GEM. It was OK but a bit wobbly. Lent it to a friend who noticed dust on the mirror and cleaned it with a tissue. Silver coating doesn't like that sort of treatment, so had it aluminised but it was more crap thereafter and I tossed it.

Televue Nagler 22mm, 11mm, 9mm, 4.8mm (very old type I), Everbrite 2" diagonal and 2" big barlow. Used them approximately five times and they sat in a box until I sold them. I should have realised that imaging was in my blood from the very beginning. A complete waste of time and money from my perspective.

I regret buying an ed80. As a visual observer I found it no more useful than binoculars, which i already had.

The 6mm Bintel (GSO) plossl - but someone will buy it from me or I'll make a present of it.

My 10" Saxon Newt OTA. I bought it secondhand earlier this year to tide me over while I waited for the FLT132 but it turned out the FLT132 arrived a lot faster than I expected and I've hardly mounted it since. It's a nice scope but I have no use for it now. Guess I could sell it.

A fork mounted C8. I bought this at the same time/from the same seller as an ED80, mostly as an impulse purchase.
I already have a GEM mounted C8 so the fork mounted one gets little use (twice in the last 12 months)

You are doing well just now if it's only imaging that's in your blood:P

i regret buying my NP101mm only because when i got it a month later they brought out the isNP101mm which would have been better for my STL-11000M. Still very happy with this scope.

a 2 inch uhc filter, visually it just turns all the objects blue. if i do visual observing i just stick to the dark parts of the sky, and leave the glow to the west from the city alone

The thing I regret the most is a microwave cookbook.

Since the purchase of this cookbook I have been living on a nuclear diet. All the neighbours see us coming as we glow in the dark.

Ever tried irradiated dim sims or Glow in the dark Chicken??

Cheers
