I was pondering on the train tonight what TV will bring out as the next focal length for the Ethos, after the 13mm.

What do you think?

The 13mm was chosen for release first to mirror what happened with the Nagler: the first Nagler was at a 13mm focal length. Does anyone know what the second Nagler focal length was?

I have decided that my dream Ethos line-up would be the following: 30mm, then 20mm, then 10mm, then 7mm.

I wonder what a 30mm Ethos would cost? Judging by the fact that a 31 Nagler is twice the price of a 13 Nagler, we could be looking at 1,500AUD or more.

And when will the other major eyepiece manufacturers attempt a 100 degree FOV eyepiece. No doubt Meade will try to go there. I wonder who else will?

These are the things which keep me awake at night......:screwy:

Rod I think I read somewhere that the design has an upper limit
of 26 mm or something close .

Yes, limited by the 2" barrell size.

Realistically, an Ethos is limited to about 28mm due to the 2'' barrel size. This would yield, in a 1000mm scope, a true field of 2.8 degrees, the same as the UO-MK40 Konig which has a FL of 40 and an AFOV of 70.

I think the LVW 42mm is just a tad wider though (AFOV 72).

The ethos is a fantastic performer with great edge correction and i think a just right amount of eye relief. How well this design scales to other focal lengths will be very interesting to see.

I'd be surprised if TV went for a longer FL for the second Ethos - that would just tend to cannabalise their sales of Naglers and Panoptics in the medium FLs where they have a strong presence. I think a shorter FL, say 8-10mm, is more likely because TV face more competition in the shorter FLs.
