I am thinking about getting a 25x100mm or 30x100mm AOE binoculars and wondered if anyone had bought these or knew about them and if it would be worth getting the higher power.
Thanks
Bob

they are very big and very heavy and mounting them so that they are both stable and usable on the night sky is the biggest issue I see with them.

I would go for the 25x for the simple reason that extended objects will appear brighter.

I prefer 80 * 20 triplets from Andrews. Go for lower magnification and wider depth of field - as everything you see other than the moon, Jupiter, Saturn and Mars will just be points of light.

4mm puipil ( 25X) is a really good balance between magnification and rich field for deep sky viewing. 30X will push your mounting system that much harder.

I think 25x and 30x from AOE are the same weight and size - just different magnification eyepieces?

Yep , thats what I meant. Certainly for hand holding, I find the differnce between 8X and 12X quite noticeable.

Either way they will need the mount from hell :)
