Hi Everybody, some of you already know I am restoring an 1878 telescope where the telescope was manufactured by John Browning of London and the optics were done by George With.

Several forum members are already involved in the restoration of the project, however I am throwing out a general call for any member that has research material or knowledge about With-Browning in general.

I have already amassed a fair amount of material but you can never have enough of course. I'm not sure if this is the correct section to mount this thread but if not I'm sure a moderator will reposition it accordingly.

There is already a very substantial thread on this topic on the Ravenshoe forum at: http://ravenshoe.net/bbs/YaBB.pl?num=1184240807/75 (http://ravenshoe.net/bbs/YaBB.pl?num=1184240807/75)

Below is the badge that was affixed to the telescope, I have seen a couple others about on the Net, but not many, if any member of IIS has one, I would love to hear from you.

Thanks for reading.

Hello members, I have just finished working on the Charles Grover part of my website, it's not finished yet, but there is already substantial documentation and images there, all compliments of Jerry Grover, who has copyright on the material and has gratefully permitted me the right to publish it on my site: http://www.antiquescopes.com/CharlesGrover.aspx (http://www.antiquescopes.com/CharlesGrover.aspx) I am indebted to Jerry for the wonderful collaboration and for his expert researching of his Great Great Grandfather Charles Grover who worked as John Browning's assistant for 13 years.

The account of Charles visit to Jimbour in Queensland for the 1882 transit of Venus makes compelling reading for Aussies, I hope that you enjoy reading of the life and times of this extraordinary man.
