My next major purchase will be a....

C14 and I will also be building 14.5" or 16" aluminium tube scope like birds!

I was very impressed with Paul Haese's 18"sdm and also Birds 13.1" Newt.

Both have their advantages.... so I will be going for both.

I reckon I will ALT / AZ the Newt and get a decent mount for the C14.

Paul has gone the CGE series I believe, so I will be keen to foolow his progress.

The main reason for both is that I will be wanting to fly with my scope and the C14 seems the best big scope to get on a plane!

I will also want to eyeball some stuff and the 14.5" / 16" mirror on the newt will be great.

NOW, to start saving!

A C14 is carry-on?? What about the mount, tripod, counterweights??
Good to have goals like this though DP. Go for it.

Agree with Gary, great to have your mind made up about what's next.

Me, I have no idea. The 12" will keep me occupied for a while to come. I can't afford anything bigger but the 12" is very big in terms of portability too, it's a very long tube. At least the C14 is shorter and more compact to transport.

I wouldn't mind dabbling in DSO's but I have no desire (at this stage) to delve right into it.

LOL @ Ken....

Go get it Dave, thinking similar here but would only go as far as a C11 I think, not sure my back etc.. would want a C14 to lug around.

The c14 really is a big beast, check this out (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=644&d=1108253624)

As for new scopes, my SDM is finally coming at the end of this month:cool:

I with you Dave. When we go to Barbados we will be twins. For travel and using a large aperture this is the way to go as far as I am concerned. The CGE mount looks like a great mount and hence why I went with it. My 14 should arrive in a week or so and I am champing at the bit.

Glad you made the decision Mate.

Another large portable scope to consider is the fothcoming Obsession 15"
foldable truss Dob.

Dave Kriege debuted the 18" version of this design at the Texas Star Party and
it created quite a stir. Apparently the 18 is already in production (priced the same
as the classic 18). The forthcoming 15 is designed to be aircraft portable.

In the attached photographs, Dave Kriege assembled the 18" version of
this scope on stage in about 1 minute and 37 seconds.

The trouble with the new obsession is that it will not be rigid enough for hi res imaging. My SDM had to be beefed up to be rigid enough for imaging around 10,000mm
