Are there any local telescope makers/manufacturers in Australia?

Not sure what you're budget is, but if you're looking for some high-end local produce - http://www.anssentechnologies.com.au/

The reason is that the market for ready made large premium scopes probably wouldn't even be big enough to support more than one, quality dob maker.
Most aussie Amateur telescope makers are using the same instructional book as the Pros's do, to learn to build their own scope ...( Kreige's "How to build a Modern Dobsonian" ( Obsession style ), and doing a great job of it now that chinese power tools are so cheap. There are shortcuts to some help with tricky bits, like buying a locally made sling mirror flotation cell and Moonlite truss connector blocks, as well as good low cost straight wood cutting at Mr Plywood .
