Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a good filter (and company that sells them) to use for photography in suburban areas which make imaging of deepsky stuff a little easier without flooding the chip with that horrid light pollution. I have heard of some members using UHC-S filters with good success and H-A filters also. What would be better for widefield Astrophotography.

thanks in advance..

In suburban (i.e. light-polluted) areas the best type of filter is a 'deep sky' broadband type (also known as CLS by some manufacturers). The UHC filters are narrowband. Not sure if you can use them for photography.

I have only used my deep sky filter visually and it does make a difference in suburban areas. At dark-sky sites I use either UHC or no filter at all.

My Lumicon Deep Sky filter is actually for sale at the moment (see the Buy/Sell forums). It's a 2" fitting, so it wouldn't be big enough if you want to attach it to the front of a camera lens.

I'm pretty busy studying until Thursday, but if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Cheers

Morton

Andrew, Hutech have large rang of LPR filters that will fit any lens up to 86mm. i use one all the time, and in my opinion you cant get much better.
Just Google in Hutech, and you will be able to get to all there products available.
They are fairly expensive but will serve you well.

This is not to use on a camera lens, it was going on a 2" DSLR T-thread adapter and used in a widefield ED80.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will look around.

Andrew, you can still get one to fit the T-Thread adapter, for you ED80 from Hutech, they have the 48mm ones as well.
