G'day,
I was wondering why some commercial and private sales of the Mead LX200 10", supply or advise 18 volt power and not the 12 vol.any reason for that.
Thanks
Regards
Arthur

I believe that earlier model LX200's used 12V and the later more souped up electronic models used 18V mains adapters. They are two distinct variants of the LX200 family.

The "LX200 Classic" (the original LX200) telescopes were always supplied with an 18v power supply. They were able to run on 12v, in particular you could run them on 12v batteries, but 18v was better (more powerful for slewing etc).

I believe with the introduction of the LX200GPS (and then R and then RCX400) all those newer ones are 12v only, but I could be wrong.

I have the "Classic" early one, so mine runs on 18v, except in the 'old days' when I used to take it out in the field it ran from a 12v SLA battery. 18v is much better.

Please discard my previous comment above - my recollection has been shown to be incorrect based on Roger's later, more accurate post.
