I'm looking into buying the MinEQ and the Single Axis drive for it. Has anybody had any experience with this mount combo?

I've been talking to the guy who made this article:

I know him on a IRC channel I visit and he said it's extremely hard to align with polaris because the mount is so low to the table. He said he was going to eventually mount a green laser to it in order to align it perfectly with polaris. Now, I have a pretty beast green laser, and I think I could make a decent mount for it. He also said he's aligned it well enough before that he's gotten more than 30 minutes of good tracking on it with the single axis combo and his scope.

Does anybody have an objections why I shouldn't buy this for beginner astrophotography? Any alternatives that are better in this price range(I doubt it)?
