Does anyone have one of these and do you have any tips on setting up visually and photographically. I cannot achieve focus with mine when connected to 2 inch focuser and 350D camera on my 254mm Skywatcher Newtonian. The sheet that came with the filter is not very helpful and the Baader website even less so. I think I might need an extension tube or something similar.

Hi bluescope,

An extension tube will only make focus worse as you will need more infocus with your setup. If you are using a standard 2" R&P focuser with 350D and the MPCC, you will need a lower profile focuser to achieve 'infocus'. If you have the newer type MPCC, take the outside ring off . This will give you slightly more infocus and don't use a prime focus adapter. Just use the canon t-thread with the MPCC only. Another method is to move your primary mirror closer to the focuser by tightening the collimation screw.

welcome to IIS btw :)

You need a 50mm spacer between the CCD sensor surface and the face of the last lens of the MPCC (Closest to the CCD sensor).
The problem is by adding all this, you can throw out the focus point, unless you use it in a way where ALL the MPCC and the spacer is inside the focuser. Then the camera will be in the same position as when the MPCC is not connected.
Example, i use my MPCC with the T thread spacer,. The whole MPCC and spacer slide deep into the focuser (Remove the threaded ring on the MPCC), and the MPCC sits in the focuser as if there was nothing else attached. This will only throw your back focus by about 10mm as if you were imaging without it.
So if you are having problems, check your spacings !.

Thanks for the info guys ..... it's not easy to sort these things out when not many people seem to use the MPCC.

Hi bluescope

Have you had a chance to try any of the above suggestions.

Would be interested to know the outcome, as I am wanting to mount a camera to an 8" Newt that also has R&P focuser.

Just thougth I'd report that I attached the MPCC to my 200 Newt tonight to see if I could focus and it worked no worries with plenty of in and out to spare. Will try on 254mm Newt soon and hope for same result. I've posted some images from the session tonight in Solar System and Deep Space forums.....:eyepop:

Cheers !

Thanks for your input about making a new adapter. I'm afraid I don't have the machinery to do such a thing ... however I drilled a third hole in opposition to the existing 2 holes in my skywatcher holder and inserted a stainless steel screw and it has worked fine ... very secure.

Is the Baader MPCC intended only for imaging or does it have a visual application like the TV Parracorr?

Thanks Skywatcher: So it does noticeably reduce coma in the manner of the TV Parracorr? I'm asking this because it's considerably less expensive than the Parracorr and looks a lot less weighty.
