Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone has suggestions regarding adjusting tension with a Skywatcher 14inch goto dob.
I only see the motors with no tension knobs for the alt and az positions whereas the Orion goto has a tension knob? :confused2:

I have noticed putting some of the heavier eyepieces that scope will gradually shift down due to the weight. Is the tension knob only on newer models of the Skywatcher goto models?

Thanks,

Have you got a photo or link to the model in question?

I bought a 10" for my son and rather than external clutch knobs you need to remove the motor covers and tweak an adjusting nut if the drives are slipping on that one.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for responding.

No photos with me, I will take some tonight.
Searching the net, this is similiar to what i have:

Didn't know about the adjusting nut. I assume its easily accessible when you take the cover for the motor off?

Hi Mel,

I had the 16" goto version, and I thought the 14" was similar in that the clutches could be adjusted externally with the small circular "handles" on the outside of the motor casings. If that's not the case on the 14", you might be able to try the procedure in the .pdf attached.

That is the setup I was thinking of yes. I have not needed to touch ours as it holds altitude nicely. If anything I might try to back ours off a little to make it push to a bit easier.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the info. I have only noticed with heavy eyepieces that the scope slowly goes down.

Good to know what to do :)

Tension knobs would be easier to manage with.
