Hi Guys,

This just a general question, for anyone who might like to give some advice.

I regard to a ten year old G11 Mount compared to the current model, could one expect them to be the same, and do you think there could be issues with the older mount in the future, or do these mounts last for ever.

Cheers leon

Damm, put it in the wrong thread, sorry

Hi Leon

With regard to a 10 year old Losmandy G-11, there are a couple of major differences, the older G-11 does'nt have the new "High Precision Worm" so your overall PE is a matter of hit and miss, also it only has 1 bolt on the altitude lock, this lead to a lot of difficulty adjusting your latitude to any great precision.

The new G-11's have both the High Precision Worm and dual altitude locks other than that there are only very small differences between the older G-11's and the current model.

Out of interest, my G-11 has run smoothly straight out of the box for the last 2 years now, I have not had to adjust the worms at all, a truly excellent mount for the price.

Also, still have my GM-8, which is an older model, and it runs perfectly with the stepper motors, in the 8 years I have had that, I have only adjusted the worm twice.

Cheers

As John points out the two "failings" are the single bolt, and the older worm.
You can acquire a new worm for about US$50, and I have seen "fixes" for the single altitude bolt as well.

Hi Leon

I don't know whether you have thought about how you are mounting your G-11 when you get, this is what a lot of people use:

The Losmandy MA, Meade Adapter, it has a 1/2 hole in the center and is used for a permanent pier situation, I use this myself.

About 2/3rds down the page, makes things a lot easier. You can see how it is setup in the "My Equipment" in the link below.

Cheers

I use the meade adapter on a meade tripod for field work and purchased high precision worms for my Losmandy G11. Other thing was to update to version 4 of Gemini. Now have an excellent mount
