I took a few images through the Televue 85 last night to see how it performs compared to other refractors I've used. It's not as good as the NP101 (expected) but IMO it's better than the Tak FC100d for OSC imaging.

I get the impression that the FC100 is better corrected towards blue but colours look washed out (especially red) while the TV85 is better corrected towards red but there are slight violet halos on bright stars.

NGC 253 is only 26 minutes as my battery went flat; Tuc 47, M27, M8 are one hour (30x2 min).
TV85, WO reducer, IDAS P2, D5600

I'm still just mucking around (and having fun) with imaging but I plan to get a bit more serious from now and try to use longer focal lengths and more time on those smaller targets.

It’s doing well for a doublet! Never seen a TV85 up close but they’re very light and portable from what I hear.
Did you any corrector with the TV85 or FC100DL?

I am curious as to whether a matched corrector for either of them would both flatten the field and increase colour correction? Similar to what Borg does with their doublets.

I used the William Optics 0.8x Flat6A II flattener/reducer on both the TV85 and the FC100dc. Neither scope is as good as a triplet but they're not bad. You might have a point there Colin about the manufacturers correctors - potentially they could build in some colour adjustment.

All wonderful images Tony.
I am surprised really ... A 80mm doublet is the way to get into astrophotography I recon.

Looks amazing! Looking for at an 80ED myself.

Thanks Alex and Aaron. The images look a lot better when they're not squeezed down to 200kb too; I wish we could have a 500kb limit like CN, makes a big difference.

Under 600mm focal length and faster than f/6 definitely makes things easier for us beginners.

I was out last night with the NP101 but failed to focus carefully enough so those images are in the bin. Every now and then things are going so smoothly I get blasé and make a mistake :)
