As well as a new ASI1600mm Pro mono camera I also got an ASI294MC Pro OSC camera. The plan is to run them simultaneously and collect a motza of data in the brief periods of cloud free darkness that we are blessed with. Sorry, but the test subject is the bloody Lagoon again ;)

I'm actually pretty impressed with the result of 180x30s subs from a sky where you can only see a handful of stars - a few kms from the Brisbane CBD.

Running two cameras simultaneously. Now I am impressed :2thumbs:

Now you will need two computers so that you can process both data sets simultaneously :D

Thanks, Rodney. I have 32 cores on one computer so no complaints about processing time :)

Looks like you have that spacing dialled in now Rick.

It's different on the ASI1600 and ASI294, Peter, but getting there

Nice! Which camera you prefer? I was thinking the 294 image looks more appealing to me.

Thanks, Troy. I haven't come to a firm conclusion yet. The 294 image has more integration time and I put slightly more effort into making it pretty. They both seem very capable cameras.

The full res looks incredibly well corrected for a color lens shot. As good as it gets.

Thanks, Marc! It has taken some work but I think I'm going to get reasonable results. Unfortunately, this weekend isn't looking good for a first outing to a dark site.

I think you are right to be impressed Rick. That looks pretty good to me.

That's fabulous. Perhaps a bit dim and could do with a brightness boost but very nice stars and colours. It looks like you have a nice widefield setup there.

It'd be interesting to see how it compares to a nice DSLR/Mirrorless uncooled but low read noise and high megapixel image.

You’ve got it humming along nicely so far with your light polluted efforts. Darker skies make it even funnier :)

Thanks, Greg. Yes, it is a bit dim. I might tweak it a little tonight.

I can do a comparison with my D800 if the weather holds out...

Cheers,
Rick.

Looks really great. They say the 294 is a very capable camera.

Thanks, Kevin. The 294 has great QE and low read noise at unity gain and above. Dark current is a bit high but you can't have everything. I plan to do NB and Lum with the 1600 and colour with the 294. Both at once, of course :)

Cheers,
Rick.

Glad to see you’re enjoying and getting pleasing results with cameras from the dark side

The cooling was the clincher for me compared with a DSLR, those hot and humid Queensland summer nights are a nightmare for imaging otherwise.

Yes, looking very nice for suburban imaging Rick.
Would be interesting to see what this image looked like with similar exposure time from a nice dark sky site - fingers crossed weather wise for you.

Thanks, Dunk. I didn't like what my D800 did to the colour of saturated stars either.

Thanks, Mike. It's good to do something different.

Thanks, Rob.

Hi Rick,
That is a great shot. Fighting bad light pollution is not easy, but thanks to digital technology and modern processing, we are not dead in the water yet.

Cheers

Thanks, Peter. I plan to do mainly narrowband from home but once I have a dual set up I might as well capture lots of RGB at the same time.
