Winter has come and has slowed the amount of imaging that can be done at Clayton Observatories.

The RC is now fully back in action or so I thought until I found frosting on my red subs of this image a week ago. Though 4 years without recharge is not bad I suppose. I have now recharged the desiccant but have used those red subs in this image. My plan being that I will reshoot them and add a lot more luminance to this image after new moon before it sets for the year. I really want to bring out the faint detail in the dusty regions.

I have always wanted to do both a wide field and a hi res version of this target, it has so much to offer us imagers. The availability of bright guide stars is a bit of a problem for using an AO though. I really wanted to capture the globular in the area, but a bright star was not present for me in that composition. I do however think this is a nice composition in any event and the image shows quite a lot of detail.

This is 8 hours of integration with the RC, STXL11002 with AOX and MX mount.

Crickey Paul!

And happy to see I wasn't nuts - there IS a patch of red H-a :)

I am going to try my hand at this at f/8 (extender Q) with the FSQ....hang on to hats :P

Shame you couldn't include the glob, Paul, but I love the detail and colour.

Gorgeous pic, Paul. I really love the subtle detail on the reflection nebula you've managed to pull out there.

The core feels a tiny bit oversharpened / too contrasty to me - maybe because it contrasts so starkly with the surrounding dust with its softer details?

What's that tiny red skerrick off to the right? Planetary neb or tiny emission neb?

Great image with huge 'wow' factor. Nice one.

Humm. Nicely done, but a slightly wider field would work wonders for the framing.

I think it works well with this composition. Kind of looks like a bug eyed insect in space. Good one Paul.

Super detailed. You sure got a lot of sharp detail in that. A very good image.

Greg.

The wispy detail is really spectacular Paul, as is the detail in 6729

Thanks everyone for all the comments. Much appreciated. Peter, you're right a wider field of view would be nice. Having to crop because of the lack of a flattener is causing some angst, but not enough to warrant spending an awful lot of money.

Thanks Markus for your comments. The tiny red spot is an emission nebula I think. On images with Ha you can see more red spots in the area. I am assuming this is spots of emission.

A good result Paul, maybe the sharpening/contrast on the blue neb and the ice cream pile is a little strong?.. but overall it looks good.

great detail Paul, yes either a bigger field or cropping might improve, but I'd still be very happy with this!

Fabulous take on this region Paul. Don't usually see it with this sort of resolution and detail.

Fantastic detail and resolution Paul, more than is usually seen in the wider field images of this region that pop up
