I'm going to change my user name from Imme to Imanoverprocessingfreak.

Don't know what comes over me....I start....and keep going....and keep going, until the original pic seems to have gone and I end up with something like this!

I definitely need to keep off the 'remove stars' button....but it's just so much fun!

Oh well....I enjoy myself regardless.

So here's 1.5 hours with all the calibration frames applied from a OSC asi1600. 3 minutes subs and guided obviously.

Best thing about this one was I took most of it from my lounge room......then I took a little more while laying in bed watching a doco - my first remote session.

Sweet. I appreciate the not-so-overprocessing!

Geez ! Did ya leave any photons for the rest of us, you seem to have captured most of them. Stunning shot with loads of detail. If that is 'over processing' then bring it on.

Thanks for the positive comments guys......to be honest I wasn’t expecting them!

That's one of the nicest M8's I've seen. My only comment is that you could leave a few more stars in as there is a nice cluster embedded in the nebula.

Now get outa here over to the deep space section. :)

Really nice M8! Doesn't look over processed but has a nice 3D depth to it.

Pfft.....they’d eat me alive mate. I’m happy to hang out right here!

Now we're talking! Great result Jon, looks like everything is starting to come together now.
I really like your processing here, nice and contrasty, crisp and clear. A little more colour in the stars maybe but the colour of the nebulosity looks fantastic. I will expect big things from you now with the aid of those dark skies out your way. If only the clouds would stay away long enough to gather the data! Keep up the good work.

Thanks mickoid.....I've spent a fair bit of time on startools recently and finally feel i getting to know my way around it now.
The rig is definitely starting to work as it should. Have spent a lot of frustrating hours working the bugs out but it has been worth it. I can now walk in the Obs and be imaging within 10-15 minutes. Really makes it more fun now rather than battling tech issues

Just goes to show hey...... I felt processing was pushed too far.
Maybe I'm wrong!

I'm really impressed you can get that level of detail out of an OSC camera. Usually it takes a mono and filters to get that level of detail.

What scope did you use?

Super image Imme!!
Top quality M8 mate, you’ve hit the mark with this one, love it - brilliant.

Anth
PS not over processed, you’ve managed to get the best out of your data and startools skills have certainly shone through.

Cheers Anth......bout time it came together for me!
Ive got you and mickoid to blame for this addiction you know.

Ps....when we hooking that guidescope up?

Hahahah:lol:
Yeea it does become a bit of an addiction mate, I'm having withdrawal symptoms due to the lack of time out there - the weather is typically shizen housen at the moment and I've been hybernating like a bear in a cave, zzzzz. Mate you have taken the bull by the horns with your observatory and imaging setup hats off to you for excelling - smart cookie you are I recon!
I'd like to try autoguiding just too darn lazy .... and maybe a bit outside the limits of my scope me thinks...but you may convince me still.

Power to you Imme, will get around eventually even if its to check out the rolling roof in action!

Stunning Jon.
I missed it yesterday and I am glad I did because I ended up imaging it last night and I yhink if I had seen your image I would not have even tried.☺
Really impressive.
My daughter gave me a good tip about processing.
Do a bit save it and leave looking at it for a day or so.
I remember doing paintings the key was to back off before you do too much.
But I dont think your efforts here have been wasted thats for sure.
I would love to hear about your remote approach...is there a thread?
What did you do?
Alex

I reckon i have a spare laptop, guidescope and camera we can duct tape to your tube so both you and mike can at least give it a try!

Thanks for the comments Alex.

Re remote stuff....no, no thread, but I'm happy to start a 'Dummies approach to networking ' thread if people think it would be valuable.

im a complete dummy when it comes to networks and computers so it'll be very basic stuff written in really simple terms. 4 weeks ago i knew nothing about networks other than they connect computers together!

But at the end of the day what I've done is connect up my equipment for remote use with spending only a couple hundred dollars

Jon please start a thread.
The expects of the beginners section only have to be a couple of weeks ahead☺.
I would like to know and I bet there are others.

Brilliant image you have got.
All the components aree pretty well spot on.
It's got that 3d thing happening even on a phone screen
I can only pretend to get these sort of images with the gear ive got but you have to start somewhere.
Cheers
Andy

I’m using a WO FLT132 mounted on an eq6. OSC is a ASI1600 running 139 gain, 21 offset from memory......darks, flats and bias frames all applied.

I’m really loving this zwo camera and don’t see the point in moving to filters yet.....I think it still has more to give me.

that is a fantastic image , not sure why this is in beginners section. I'd say submit for APOD.
I have sworn of dso and sticking to alt az planet work only. but after seeing some of the recent work here I am tempted to dust of the g11 and even uses my dreded enemy the Gemini1. I love the simplicity of nexstar autostar synscan . I need to convert the g11 to eqmod soon.

Thanks netwolf......APOD....not quite sure it’s at that standard! Reason it’s in the beginner section is because I’m definately still a beginner......learning every time I go out.

Maybe for the one shot color APOD’s hahahaha
